October - The Hobbit

J.R.R. Tolkien

“If more of us valued food and cheer above hoarded gold, it would be a much merrier world”

The Perfect Start to Cosy Season

As the days get shorter and the leaves begin to fall, it is now almost mandatory to indulge in Hobbit suppers. Mum could not wait to get stuck into this particular menu as she adores traditional, hearty English cooking, which of course is one of the core elements of running a breakfast café.

Rather than wines, this evening was accompanied by ciders and beer. It was a very jovial evening of quizzes, laughter, folk music, and of course bonding over this beloved classic.

“There is nothing like looking, if you want to find something. You certainly usually find something, if you look, but it is not always quite the something you were after.”

This menu consisted of a light, fluffy potato bread with herby garlic butter to start on of course, was followed by a delicious winter vegetable pie or ale braised mutton, all accompanied by mashed potato and root veg. Lastly, our guests enjoyed a blackberry tart with honey whipped mascarpone.

We will certainly be hosting more Hobbit and Lord of the Rings themed Cooking the Books evenings, so stay tuned!
